 Behavioral Trigger

Behavioral triggers respond to specific user actions like abandoning a cart or exiting a site to deliver personalized, real-time emails or popups. These automated messages enhance user experience, increase relevance, and drive conversions by reaching people at key moments in their journey.

Definition: A behavioral trigger is an automated email or popup activated by a user’s specific action or behavior on a website, app, or within an email campaign. These triggers allow marketers to send highly timely and relevant messages that respond directly to the user’s interactions, improving engagement, customer experience, and conversion rates. Because they are behavior-driven, these messages feel personalized and helpful rather than generic.

Common behavioral triggers include cart abandonment emails, post-purchase follow-ups, or exit-intent popups that appear when a user is about to leave the site without converting.

Example: If a visitor adds a product to their online shopping cart but leaves without checking out, a behavioral trigger might send an email offering a limited-time discount on that product to encourage completion of the purchase. Similarly, a popup might appear just as a visitor moves their cursor to close the page, offering a special coupon to try and retain the visitor.
