The Foundations of Ecommerce Growth: Ram Singh on Catalog Management, SEO & AI

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.

After 12+ years of industry experience, I founded Potential Digital Agency, an eCommerce-focused digital agency with a vision to help businesses build, scale, and optimize their digital presence.

As a Business Technology & Growth Strategist, I work at the intersection of business strategy, digital transformation, technology execution, and sustainable growth. My experience spans eCommerce development and optimization, SEO, digital marketing, custom software development, business automation, kiosk solutions, digital signage, and cloud-based systems.

I combine strategic thinking with hands-on technology and digital expertise to help businesses identify opportunities, solve complex challenges, improve operational efficiency, and create scalable digital solutions that drive measurable growth.

How did you get into marketing, catalog management, email marketing, or your specific field?

I started my career as a Process Associate and gradually transitioned into SEO, taking on increasingly diverse responsibilities across digital marketing, eCommerce, technology, and business operations.

Throughout my career, I have continuously expanded my skill set through hands-on practical experience, real-world projects, and self-learning. This journey has allowed me to develop expertise in areas including SEO, email marketing, eCommerce management and optimization, digital marketing, project management, and project execution.

Rather than following a single specialization, I have had the opportunity to work across multiple functions and take ownership of different responsibilities. This cross-functional experience has helped me develop a broader understanding of how strategy, technology, marketing, operations, and execution work together to drive business growth.

What types of businesses or clients do you usually work with?

We primarily work with eCommerce brands and businesses that require end-to-end digital solutions, including eCommerce development, website and custom software development, digital marketing, SEO, and ongoing optimization.

Our experience spans multiple industries, with a strong focus on Fashion & Apparel, Electronics & Technology, Healthcare, and Medical businesses. We work closely with brands to understand their business objectives and deliver scalable digital solutions that improve their online presence, customer experience, operational efficiency, and overall growth.

What’s one marketing tactic you think is underrated right now?

One marketing tactic I think is underrated right now is strategic link building.

Many businesses still approach link building as a numbers game—trying to acquire as many backlinks as possible. I believe the real opportunity is in earning relevant, authoritative links from websites, publications, industry communities, and partners that your target customers already trust.

A strong link-building strategy can do more than improve SEO rankings. It can help build brand authority, referral traffic, credibility, and visibility across both traditional search and emerging AI search experiences.

For example, instead of buying hundreds of low-quality links, I would rather create a strong industry resource, original research, case study, expert commentary, or useful tool and use digital PR, partnerships, expert outreach, and relationship building to earn high-quality mentions and links.

The key is to stop thinking about backlinks as an SEO metric and start treating them as digital endorsements of your brand.

What are the most common mistakes you see businesses make when trying to manage their products and inventory?

From my personal experience, one of the most common challenges is poor coordination between warehouse inventory, the eCommerce store, and logistics operations. When inventory levels are not updated or synchronized in real time, businesses may continue showing products as available online even when they are out of stock in the warehouse. This can lead to overselling, order cancellations, fulfillment delays, and a poor customer experience.

Having accurate inventory data, clear communication between teams, and proper integration between the eCommerce platform, warehouse, and logistics systems is essential for efficient product and inventory management.

How do you use Poptin in your own business or with your clients?

I use Poptin to create targeted pop-ups for lead generation, promotions, newsletter sign-ups, and conversion optimization. I typically use exit-intent and behavior-based campaigns to capture visitors at the right moment without negatively impacting the user experience.

What marketing/management  trend or change do you think businesses should pay attention to over the next 1–2 years?

I believe businesses should pay close attention to AI-driven search, automation, and data-led decision-making over the next 1–2 years. AI is changing how customers discover brands, evaluate products, and make purchasing decisions, while automation is transforming marketing, customer service, inventory, and operations.

If you could give our readers one actionable marketing/catalog management tip they could implement today, what would it be?

My one actionable tip is to audit your product catalog today and make sure every product has accurate pricing, inventory, images, descriptions, SKUs, variants, and shipping information across your eCommerce store and marketplaces. Even small inconsistencies can lead to lost sales, customer frustration, and wasted advertising spend. A clean, accurate, and well-optimized catalog creates a stronger foundation for both marketing and growth.
